The SantaLand Diaries – Goodman Theater – 170 N Dearborn St., Chicago, 1 hr. 5 mins., no intermission
It is not secret that not everyone loves the holidays. The commercialism alone can make “the most wonderful time of year” seem like a jolly long nightmare. When glad tidings are uttered only for a tip and that pretty parcel on your doorstep turns out to be a fruitcake, there is relief: The Santaland Diaries.
Strapped for cash at holiday time, an actor takes a job as “Crumpet the Elf” at Macy’s Santaland—and his hilarious observations are more naughty than nice. Brimming “with wicked humor,” delightfully irreverent “theatrical stocking stuffer” is perfect for those who prefer their eggnog spiked. Please Note: for mature elves only.
Q-tips say: Liked it! An outstanding one man show by MATT CROWLE. Great set, lighting, etc. Mrs. Q says: Discreet irreverent politically correct. Funny and outstanding facial/body expressions. A great way to end our Holiday Theater happenings in Chicago. A short play & then off to “Shaw’s Crabhouse.”
Yes, see it next year should it return for the holiday season.
