VANYA, SONIA, MASHA & SPIKE – Goodman Theater, 170 N Dearborn St., Chicago, IL 60601, (312) 443-3800,

A Chekhov-aced comedy on the problems and potential pleasures of later middle age.

Q-Tips say: It was ok. Two ladies behind us were just laughing all the way through this play.
There were many humorous parts, but not that many funny parts. Mrs. Q enjoyed: the older gentleman, Vanya, who was fairly quiet till the end and then let everything out. Mrs. Q also liked Spike – but had his number right from the start. If tickets are reasonably priced – you might like it.

Soon after, their quiet life is hilariously upended when their glamorous, but fading movie star sister Masha pays a surprise visit with her much younger boy-toy Spike — and a most unwelcome revelation — in tow. And so begins an unforgettable family reunion filled with rivalry, regret and racket.
