Dungeons & Dragon: honor among thieves

Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves photo 1

A charming thief and a band of unlikely adventurers undertake an epic heist to retrieve a lost relic, but things go dangerously awry when they run afoul of the wrong people. Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves brings the rich world and playful spirit of the legendary roleplaying game to the big screen in a hilarious and action-packed adventure.

Q-tips say: We did enjoy it! It may not for everyone but we did enjoy. The movie is popcorn japery (old-fashioned term for goofing around and generally acting like a clown) in fine form: Swords against sorcery, sorcery against monsters, monsters against swords, and around and around, while the charismatic cast slam-bangs the consistently amusing setup/one-liner dialogue.

Miracle at Manchester

A community comes together to organize a miracle for a teen who’s battling an aggressive form of brain cancer.

Q-tips say: Yes, see it. We really liked this wonderful movie.

This movie is everything you want an inspirational, faith-based film to be. What impressed me about the story is Brycen’s good spirits and generosity even as he faces setback after setback.

Chantilly Garden

Chantilly Bridge reunites a group of lifelong, steadfast friends who are still — in their later years — chasing their dreams, fighting injustices, and sticking up for their convictions. The women lay bare their lives and deal with important issues that impact all women with humor, humility, humanity, and love. No topic escapes the razor-like wit and insight of these women: equality, sex, menopause, mortality, feminism, parenthood, careers, love, and even “me-too” moments. While women often feel invisible in the world, this film highlights who they are and what they care about. We experience what women are truly like and what they discuss in a setting where no men are present. Chantilly Bridge is also about reconnecting with old friends from the past and the beauty of a shared history.

Q-tips say: Yes, we did enjoy this movie.

The Mr. said: A nice chick flick. But the Mrs. thinks it could be a nice “Dude” flick if the actors were men.

Mrs. Q says: A warm, wise, tender and well-acted story about female friendship. A good portrayal of female characters; honest and candid portrayal of the issues that affect women of all ages and backgrounds. Thank you for reminding us of the love and strength true friends provide in the most difficult moments in our lives!

Jesus Revolution

JESUS REVOLUTION is the story of one young hippie’s quest in the 1970s for belonging and liberation that leads not only to peace, love, and rock and roll, but that sets into motion a new counterculture crusade–a Jesus Movement–changing the course of history. Inspired by a true movement, JESUS REVOLUTION tells the story of a young Greg Laurie (Joel Courtney) being raised by his struggling mother, Charlene (Kimberly Williams-Paisley) in the 1970s. Laurie and a sea of young people descend on sunny Southern California to redefine truth through all means of liberation. Inadvertently, Laurie meets Lonnie Frisbee (Jonathan Roumie), a charismatic hippie-street-preacher, and Pastor Chuck Smith (Kelsey Grammer) who have thrown open the doors of Smith’s languishing church to a stream of wandering youth. What unfolds becomes the greatest spiritual awakening in American history. Rock and roll, newfound love, and a twist of faith lead to a JESUS REVOLUTION that turns one counterculture movement into a revival that changes the world.

Q-tips say: Yes, see it! We did enjoy this movie. Many of us might remember the hippy years & some of the music also.

One of the most appealing faith-based big-screen entertainments in a while, polished and persuasive without getting too preachy & yes, some humor.

The movie movie was uplifting & moved us. We need this in our misguided world today.

Mrs. Q says: Great message, well made movie with a history lesson tied into it & the movie was even better than I thought it would be!

The Year Between

Inspired by true events, THE YEAR BETWEEN is the story of Clemence Miller, a college sophomore who is forced to move back home after having a mental breakdown. Faced with a surprising diagnosis of bipolar disorder and a jarring return to the Illinois suburbs, Clemence has to learn how to live with her well-meaning but frustrated family and find balance in a world that seems hellbent on thwarting her.

Parents: Intense drama about mental illness has language, sex, drugs. Not for little ones but for adults & teens around 15 + is ok.

Q tips say: Thought it might be a good movie about a young college lady suffers from bipolar disorder. It’s hard to describe bi-polar disorder, but this movie manages to make it a story. By giving us a solid take on the what living with ADHD in its ugliest forms is like, both for the sufferer and those who suffer with her this movie can’t help but be a public service.

Mrs. Q says: The Year Between is a great watch for families who want to learn more about living with mental illness. It could be mildly triggering for some, especially if they have bipolar disorder, but on the whole, the film offers a lived-in look of this disorder.

The year of the Dog

Matt, a loner alcoholic at rock bottom, struggles to maintain sobriety for 30 days so he can honor his mother’s dying wish, to visit her in hospice, sober. His book-thumping AA sponsor, Fred, offers him refuge at his farm, where Matt finds Yup’ik, a stray Husky with a unique talent. The man and dog relationship is precarious at first, but with the help of a close-knit Montana community, the two strays find a connection and discover what it takes to pull through to the finish line.

Q-tips say: Yes, we did enjoy this movie. This is a heartfelt movie that deals with the sensitive subject of alcohol addiction. The acting and sweeping Montana landscapes are great. Also love that it explores a sport so many people have probably never heard of.

Mrs. Q says: Story. Scenery. An absolutely adorable husky — he’s probably my favorite part.  So much heart and smarts about life.

The Champions

Champions photo 2

Woody Harrelson stars in the hilarious and heartwarming story of a former minor-league basketball coach who, after a series of missteps, is ordered by the court to manage a team of players with intellectual disabilities. He soon realizes that despite his doubts, together, this team can go further than they ever imagined.

Q-tips say: Yes, see it! Wholesome and commendable. These fresh screen faces ooze charisma and have wonderful comic timing.

Some critics are saying the film is patronizing and making a mockery of the disabled community, but that’s not the case.

Mrs. Q says: I have learned one thing from some critics – never pay attention to the critics. This is a good movie. The cast brings out the best in each other and all are true champions.

The Diplomat

Amid an international crisis, a career diplomat juggles her new high-profile job as ambassador to the United Kingdom and her turbulent marriage to a political star.

So far, we did enjoy it somewhat.

The Son

A cautionary tale that follows a family as it struggles to reunite after falling apart.
