Leo Russo (Ray Romano) lives a simple life in Queens, New York with his wife Angela (Laurie Metcalf), their shy but talented son “Sticks” (Jacob Ward), and Leo’s close-knit network of Italian-American relatives and neighborhood friends. Happy enough working at the family construction business alongside his father (Tony Lo Bianco) and younger brother (Sebastian Maniscalco), Leo lives each week for Sticks’ high-school basketball games, never missing a chance to cheer on his only child as he rules the court as a star athlete. When the high-school senior gets a surprising and life-changing opportunity to play basketball in college, Leo jumps at the chance to provide a plan for his future, away from the family construction business. But when sudden heartbreak threatens to derail Sticks, Leo goes to unexpected lengths to keep his son on this new path.

Q-tips say: Was ok. The movie has often hilarious dialogue and some slapstick humor, when Somewhere in Queens gets into serious territory. It’s  good hearted at times misguided version may suffice for its often amusing and touching moments. Both Q’s were wrong about how the movie might end.

Four friends’ (Diane Keaton, Jane Fonda, Candice Bergen and Mary Steenburgen) lives are turned upside down to hilarious ends when their book club tackles the infamous Fifty Shades of Grey. Also starring Andy Garcia, Don Johnson and Craig T. Nelson. From discovering new romance to rekindling old flames, they inspire each other to make their next chapter the best chapter.

Q-tips say: Enjoyed it.  Thought it was cute and sweet at times – great cast. If you’re looking for a feel-good movie, this is might be one you might enjoy.

Mrs. Q says: She is not a fan of Jane Fonda but she thought this movie was entertaining with this cast of veteran ladies who approach a difficult topic of adult relationships in their senior years. The movie had great comedy and a story to tell. How could a woman walk out on her daughters lives, with just a blow kiss and then drive off, at the end of this movie OH OF COURSE – that really relates to real life!

In Ghostbusters: Afterlife, when a single mom and her two kids arrive in a small town, they begin to discover their connection to the original ghostbusters and the secret legacy their grandfather left behind.

Q-tips say: Yes, we did enjoy it.

Similar things that happened in Ghostbusters (US, 1984) happen here, the only difference is that here, they happen with preadolescents. It’s the kind of entertainment that will probably appeal most to the already established fan base.

Ghostbusters: Afterlife is a feel-good blockbuster that asks the same question: who ‘ya gonna call?

FLAMIN’ HOT is the inspiring true story of Richard Montañez (Jesse Garcia) who as a Frito Lay janitor disrupted the food industry by channeling his Mexican American heritage to turn Flamin’ Hot Cheetos from a snack into an iconic global pop culture phenomenon.

Q-tips say: Enjoyed it!

It’s a sticky story that turns into, at least, a possible good crowd pleaser.  Flamin’ Hot tries t convinces you that one man’s quest to sell a unique flavour of a very unhealthy processed snack is somehow tied to his cultural identity.

As a boy copes with his difficult home life and his parents’ failing marriage, a mysterious girl suddenly appears. Faith, family and a special kind of magic come together as his new friend teaches them all about love, forgiveness and healing.

Q-tips say: Yes, watch it. We enjoyed this movie.

The story here follows a family that get an unlikely visitor in a 9-year-old girl who unexplainably ages suddenly overnight, where the time the family spend with the now woman, will lead to advice to help them through the rest of their lives. This is a magical story that will leave you with mixed feelings of delight and sadness, with how Joy touches the lives of the family. It will highlight how small changes in life can make everything better, but you will need to make the change to escape the problems. This is easily one film that will leave an impact on you once you have finished.

Andie MacDowell stars as a famous actor who goes incognito to seek treatment for a medical issue. While at the hospital, she meets three unique and remarkable women — an aging rocker, a young mother, and a forever single retired schoolteacher. Together, they help her face adversity with humor and camaraderie while coaching her for the most challenging role she has ever played… herself.

Q-tips say: Liked it. Mr. Q liked it more than Mrs. Q but she did enjoy some.

The movie is far more entertaining than the premise would suggest. When it connects, particularly with a magnetic lead performance by Andie MacDowell, the film is moving and thoughtful and, believe it or not, funny.

Mrs. Q says: I think it’ll might resonate with anyone who has gone through this experience themselves.

Daniel (Morgan Freeman) is brought together with Allison (Florence Pugh), the once thriving young woman with a bright future who was involved in an unimaginable tragedy that took his daughter’s life. As grief-stricken Daniel navigates raising his teenage granddaughter and Allison seeks redemption, they discover that friendship, forgiveness, and hope can flourish in unlikely places.

Q-tips say: Yes, we did enjoy A Good Person. Touching story about three people who are able to face addiction and grief through their kindnesses to each other. A tad slow at times but Pugh and Freeman face up and finally come around to one another. It’s not straightforward, a dance of advance and retreat with both revealing their strengths and weaknesses, but it’s always worth watching.

The film, which will incorporate documentary, archival and scripted elements, will recount Fox’s extraordinary story in his own words — the improbable tale of an undersized kid from a Canadian army base who rose to the heights of stardom in 1980s Hollywood. The account of Fox’s public life, full of nostalgic thrills and cinematic gloss, will unspool alongside his never-before-seen private journey, including the years that followed his diagnosis, at 29, with Parkinson’s disease. Intimate and honest, and produced with unprecedented access to Fox and his family, the film will chronicle Fox’s personal and professional triumphs and travails, and will explore what happens when an incurable optimist confronts an incurable disease. With a mix of adventure and romance, comedy and drama, watching the film will feel like… well, like a Michael J. Fox movie.

Q-tips say: Yes, we did enjoy this movie. Michael J. Fox Movie is a marvel on many levels, starting with the short kid who became a superstar and ending with an honest and grateful man who cannot hold still. The film also uses scenes from Fox’s own films and TV shows to illustrate points Fox makes about his life.

 The film offers some poignant glimpses of the star’s Parkinson’s symptoms and his 1.21-gigawatt personality.

Matt, a struggling executive, finds his world turned upside down when his estranged father’s nurse shows up unexpectedly in his office. Matt’s father, a famed bad-boy photojournalist, is facing terminal cancer and his dying wish is for Matt to join him on a road trip from New York to Kansas to process his last rolls of Kodachrome film before the sole remaining lab closes and those captured moments are gone forever.

Q-tips say: We did enjoy. The emotional beats and plot developments are all rather predictable, but there’s a strong, emotional finale.

It’s equal parts family drama and character study with maybe a pinch of comedy. The film’s pleasure lies in watching [Ed] Harris’s performance.
