Banish the dull images of test tubes and musty lecture halls when considering Radioactive (available on Amazon Prime starting July 24th). The biopic traces the career trajectory of Madame Marie Curie (a magnificent Rosamund Pike), the Polish immigrant born Maria Salomea Skłodowska who became  the first person — and the only woman — to win two Nobel prizes. She shared the first in 1903, for discovering radium and polonium (named after her native country), with her French husband and fellow physicist Pierre Curie (Sam Riley). And the historical drama would be a dutiful thing, indeed, if it merely ticked off a list of Marie’s accomplishments, including being the first woman to become a professor at the University of Paris.

The movie whizzes around from present to future to show the major benefits of isolating radioactive isotopes to treat cancer. Such experiments came with risks: Marie died of exposure to radiation in 1934 at age 66.

Q-tips say: Good movie only if they would have just stuck to the scientific facts & her accomplishments. However, the movie finds time to show the destructive force of radium in the bombs that fell on Hiroshima in 1945 and the lives lost due to the 1986 nuclear disaster at Chernobyl. Marie could never have known of these events, and some have faulted the filmmaker for dragging them into her story and breaking the narrative flow.

Q-tips say: Shameful to bring in the destructive issues into the movie.

Tom and Gemma (Jesse Eisenberg and Imogen Poots) are looking for the perfect home. When a strange real-estate agent takes them to Yonder, a mysterious suburban neighborhood of identical houses, Tom and Gemma can’t leave quick enough. But when they try to exit the labyrinth-like housing development, each road takes them back to where they started. Soon, they realize their search for a dream home has plunged them into a terrifying nightmare, in this taut thriller filled with white-knuckle suspense.

Q-tips say: One of the dumbest movies we have ever seen. Dumb, Dumb & Dumber. Don’t waist your money or time on this stupid movie.

Mrs. Q says: It is Mucho Mucho about nothing – is not worth watching. The other half agreed. Feel free to skip this one.

A beautiful and contemporary retelling of Colin Thiele’s classic Australian tale. ‘Storm Boy’ has grown up to be Michael Kingley, a successful retired businessman and grandfather. When Kingley starts to see images from his past that he can’t explain, he is forced to remember his long-forgotten childhood, growing up on an isolated coastline with his father. He recounts to his grand-daughter the story of how, as a boy, he rescued and raised an extraordinary orphaned pelican, Mr Percival. Their remarkable adventures and very special bond has a profound effect on all their lives. Storm Boy is a timeless story of an unusual and unconditional friendship.

Q-tips say: Yes, see it. Mrs. Q says: Uplifting and melancholic, it’s the right “Storm Boy” for our turbulent times. Was worth the remake & movie is still entertainment for wee ones.

Q tips say:  SEE IT! A fun movie of a couple getting a divorce but instead of fighting over who gets the kid(s), they fight over the dog. Even to the point they go to court and get assigned a counselor. Some silly moments but a cute movie with a a sweet and predictable ending.  Mrs. Q says: Refreshing movie instead of watching the news with all the goofiness that is going on now a days.

Ride like a GIRL – As a little girl, Michelle Payne (Teresa Palmer) dreams of the impossible: winning the Melbourne Cup – horse-racing’s toughest two-mile race. The youngest of 10 children, Michelle is raised by single father Paddy (Sam Neill). She leaves school at 15 to become a jockey and after early failures she finds her feet, but a family tragedy, followed by her own near fatal horse fall all but ends the dream. But with the love of her dad and her brother Stevie, Michelle will not give up. Against all the medical advice, and the protests of her siblings, she rides on, and meets the Prince of Penzance. Together they overcome impossible odds for a shot at the dream: a ride in the 2015 Melbourne Cup, at odds of 100 to 1. The rest is history. Ride Like A Girl is the incredible true story of Michelle Payne.

Q-tips say: Yes, see it. Great feel good movie.  Yes, the road might be difficult at times but she overcomes it all.

The Hustlers –  Hustlers follows a crew of savvy former strip club employees who band together to turn the tables on their Wall Street clients.

Q-tips say: The strippers turn the tables on their clients? Really? What they do is to end up drugging them, robbing them by using the credit cards of the clients – sometimes to the max & then go out and spend, spend, and live the high life.  Many famous names & bodies.

Mrs. Q says:  There are plenty of pole dances, bump & grinding and way too much skin but probably less than what sometimes we see nowadays. The second part of the movie is better but that does not mean you should watch this movie. Did they get caught? Yes. But the sentence of approx. “a slap on the hand.”  One might see what these women did as anything other than petty crime(?) while still being sympathetic to their economic situations- REALLY?????—-I think NOT.

Ladies, Stop feeling sorry for yourself  about your economic situation & past — ———-GET A REAL JOB and don’t rob the stupid wall street clients who feel they need/or want to spend their hard earned money on this type of venue.
