FLACO’s TACOS :( on Granville

FLACO’s TACOS :(-  1116-1120 West Granville Ave., Edgewater, Chicago, (773) 262-8226, flacostacosonline.com

Q-tips say: Mrs. Q says:  What? You have never gone to Flaco’s Tacos in Edgewater???  It started with the Mr. wanted Nachos. Since Waterfront Cafe does not have them any more and we decided to try this place.  Well, DON’T GO TO Flaco’s Tacos!!!  It is the worst Taco food we have ever had! The place has no ambiance, it is a dump, and the service was minimal. I guess it is still in business because the Loyola College students frequent this place. They have specials everyday including on their Margaritas, which were the worst we have ever had. I had the Flautas (4 corn tortillas filled with chicken, fried golden,?? (fried to a crisp – yuck) and topped with fresh lettuce, tomato, Chihuahua cheese, sour cream & homemade guacamole. Mexican rice & refried beans on the side – not fried golden it was really well done, yuck!) and the Mr. decided on a taco instead of nachos. It was so bad that I did not want to eat it nor take it home or give it to anyone including animals.

So save yourself, and don’t go there. Taco Bell is a thousand times better that Flaco’s Tacos. When we arrived the music was blaring and the building shook.  I did ask them to turn it down and they did. They also have an outside seating area which is next to the elevated trains that make the place vibrate.  DON’T GO to Flaco’s Tacos. You have been warned.

Mrs. Q says: Liked this book.  What is it like to be a brain surgeon? To holds someone’s life in your hands and cut into the stuff that created thought, feeling and reason?

How do you live with consequences of performing a potentially live saving operation when all goes wrong.

Book about neurosurgery and the Dr. who has to make agonizing decisions of great urgency and uncertainty on a daily basis.

You will finish the book with a greater awe and reverence for the mystery of life.

Polish Museum of America 5/2018

Polish Museum of America –  984 N Milwaukee Ave., Chicago,  (773) 384-3352    polishmuseumofamerica.org

Q-tips say:  Great place to see Polish artwork and learn why Chicago has such a rich Polish culture! They have a docent that gives a tour. Artifacts from Polish artists, generals, Popes, poets, musicians, painters,  famous physicist, chemist, Marie Sktodowska-Curie.  They have an art museum upstairs, be sure to see it.

The museum is full of information and if you are of Polish decent, or not, it is a wonderful museum and great place to spend some time viewing all they have.

Harry Caray’s Italian – 2018

Harry Caray’s – 33 W. Kinzie, Chicago 312-828-0966 –   harrycarays.com

Q-tips say: After the Riverwalk excursion, walked to “Harry Caray’s” Rest. and had a late lunch/early dinner. Entrees: the Chicken Vesuvio w/roasted potatoes & peas. One entree: Chicken Parmigiana with Spaghetti Marinara.  Along with good drinks and good friends, a wonderful time had by all.

Mrs. Q says: then took the Bus #147, her favorite bus which goes along Lake Shore Dr., which leaves us off a 1/2 block from home.

Chicago Riverwalk 5/2018

Chicago Riverwalk – 400 E Lower Wacker Dr., Chicago, IL, cityofchicago.org

Q-tips say: Yes, it was the weekend for the Riverwalk Fest. We and long time friends met at the Riverwalk and took a “FREE” excursion with a docent who explained several things/sites on the Riverwalk. The fee was only $3.00 for processing for all 4 of us.

The weather was not as nice as they predicted but at least it did not rain. Still enjoyed our friends and the Riverwalk.  After the Riverwalk excursion walked to “Harry Caray’s – see review on Chicago Rest. 2018.

King Crab House 5/2018

King Crab House– 1816 N Halsted St., Chicago, IL,  (312) 280-8990, kingcrabchicago.com

Q-tips say:  Went after a theater performance. Service was good & our waitress was fun and friendly, drinks were ok. Both Q’s had the Lobster Bisque soup and had upset tummies afterward. We think it was due to some seasoning in the soup. My Salmon entree and the Mr.’s blackened fresh fish were good. We used our Rest.com coupon discount.  So many restaurants near “theater row” and so little time.

Roaring Camp & Big Trees- Narrow Gauge Railroad 2/2019

Roaring Camp Railroad Train Rides –  5401 Graham Hill Rd., Felton, CA  –(831) 335-4484-   roaringcamp.com

Q-tips say:  When you are with a 7 year old who loves everything about trains – you go twice on a train ride.  The first time it was on a regular locomotive and a short ride and then a short ride back.

The second train ride was on a “steam locomotive” train that went up the mountains – a short stop where you walk around and take care of “mother nature” calls and then ride back.

Q-tips say: Loved this “steam locomotive ” train ride. The conductor was funny and very informative about the train and its parts and how it ran.  The guest speaker, Nancy, was equally informative about the trees, the plants, animals that are in the Redwood Forest.  Mrs. Q really enjoyed this train ride and the speakers – right up her alley.
