BRUNO’S BAR & Grill Rest. 2/2018

BRUNO’S BAR &  Grill – 230 Mount Hermon Rd., Scotts Valley, CA, (831) 438-2227  brunosbarandgrill.com

Q-tips say: The place was packed. Families, older types, younger. The have a dining room and also another room with tables and the bar. Our drinks were good. The Mr. had ribs and liked them.  Mrs. Q shared her Wedge Salad with the Mr. and then had Crab Cakes. The Crab Cakes were a disappointment –  lot of filling but very little crab meat. But both of us liked the Wedge Salad.  Mrs. Q says: If we go again, I will try something else.

My Friend Dahmer

My Friend Dahmer – Jeffrey Dahmer murdered 17 men and boys in the Midwest United States between 1978 and 1991 before being captured and incarcerated. He would become one of America’s most infamous serial killers. This is the story before that story. Jeff Dahmer (Disney Channel’s Ross Lynch) is an awkward teenager struggling to make it through high school with a family life in ruins. He collects roadkill, fixates on a neighborhood jogger (Vincent Kartheiser, “Mad Men”), and copes with his unstable mother (Anne Heche) and well-intentioned father (Dallas Roberts). He begins to act out at school, and his goofball antics win over a group of band-nerds who form The Dahmer Fan Club, headed by Derf Backderf (Alex Wolff, “Patriots Day”). But this camaraderie can’t mask his growing depravity. Approaching graduation, Jeff spirals further out of control, inching ever closer to madness.

Q-tips say: We liked this movie.  Mrs. Q says: One wonders happened to this person during growing up that made him do this.  This movie shows a tad of what he struggled with – many issues like many of us but we did not end up killing animals and humans.

The Post

The Post – Steven Spielberg directs Meryl Streep and Tom Hanks in The Post, a drama about the unlikely partnership between The Washington Post’s Katharine Graham (Streep), the first female publisher of a major American newspaper, and editor Ben Bradlee (Hanks), as they race to catch up with The New York Times to expose a massive cover-up of government secrets that spanned three decades and four U.S. Presidents. The two must overcome their differences as they risk their careers – and their very freedom – to help bring long-buried truths to light. The Post marks the first time Meryl Streep, Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg have collaborated on a project- Mrs. Q says: who cares.

Q-tips say: We enjoyed this movie. Good acting and a good support cast. Great acting by Tom Hanks, nothing special about Meryl Streep’s acting.

SHADOWBROOK – 1750 Wharf Rd. Capitola, CA – (831) 475-1511, shadowbrook-capitola.com

Q-tips say: Love this place. Full Bar, Happy Hour and bar bites. Went with our daughter and grandson who loved  the  cable car up the hill. Went on TWO-FER TUESDAY, All night in the Rockroom Lounge (ONLY), 2-for-1 Pizzas & Appetizers, (Two for the price of one), Select cocktails, beers and wines for $6.95.  All Year on Tues. Almost thought we were back in Florida – many older types eat here.

You pay for the pizza/ appetizer that cost more and the other is FREE.  Mrs. Q likes FREE. Then later in the evening they have a band. Needless to say the place was crowded. Will go back on Mon. 8oz Prime Rib, Garlic-whipped potato, creamed spinach, horseradish cream and Cabernet jus for around $18.00.

The Q’s were disappointed with the Prime Rib. Asked for Med. and it was Well Done. Mrs. Q says: we will stick with the Two fer Tuesday.
They did offer to redo for us – but it would take too long because the place was busy – so we declined.

Chinese New Year celebration in San Jose Museum of Art in San Jose CA – 110 S.  Market St.,  San Jose CA 95113, (408) 271-684, sanjosemuseumofart.org

Q-tips say: Nice museum and this Chinese New Year’s Celebration offered making your own fortune cookie out of paper, since this was “the year of the dog,” we made dog faces on paper and bookmarks.  The little people were enjoying the creative crafts along with the older people. Then we colored our astrological sign and they made a button out of it.

Then came the dance of the snake, etc. The best part of all it was “FREE.”  You need to get tickets earlier to participate but all was free.

Then off to lunch for Sum Dim.
