When I look at a company I often find myself wondering
what is the center of communication for that company?
Is it the CEO?
Maybe one of the Vice Presidents?
Head of marketing?
I would say none of these are the center of communication in a company.
In an old episode of the US version of “The Office” they got it right.
Where is the center of communication?

I often get asked why I refer to the training we do here at Heroic Voice as Communication training instead of Presentation training.
The answer is simple, I don’t like the word presentation.
Why?
Because a presentation is talking at people, a conversation is talking with people.
Simple.
This is one of the most annoying questions people get asked at networking events, “So, what do you do?”
They do not want to actually know what you do, they want to know who you are.
I answer by sharing my vision, values and vows.
How do you answer?

I do not care what conversation or presentation you have coming up, it always has to start with a strong foundation.
When you have clarity and are able to share the following in every conversation you are on your way to a successful outcome.
1. Vision – where are you or your company going. What is the future that you are creating?
2. Values – what do you or your company stand for? What are the non-negotiables you will not sell out on?
3. Vows – How do you show up? No matter the situation what is one or two things your clients will always know they can count on you to bring during every interaction?
Use these foundational pieces and success in every conversation is on the way.
Want to learn more about how to identify these and how to use the appropriately in the different conversations you are having?

Everyone tells you that you need an elevator pitch.
I disagree, a first conversation it is not about selling, it is about getting a second conversation.
This is why I believe everyone needs a Personal brand Conversation. When you can quickly tell someone where you are going – Vision, what you stand for – Values, and how you show up – Vows, you get the only thing that should be the outcome of an elevator conversation – the next conversation!
You need a Personal Brand:
WHY – Communicate trust with your personal brand Use your personal introduction in all of your high-stakes presentations and conversations.
WHAT – Leaders must communicate with excellence in all of their high stakes speaking opportunities with clients, investors, partners, sponsors, analysts, journalists, current and future team members.
HOW – Communicate trust by answer the 3 most important questions from your audience:
Where are you going? This is your VISION of the world you are creating
What is important to you? These are the VALUES that you stand for
How can I count on you? These VOWS are your personal commitments
IF – Be successful at communicating trust with prospective stakeholders to build a foundation for long term relationships.

We all know that a message must be understood in order for it to be effective. Too often people forget that a message must be experienced emotionally, to be experienced, for the message to truly be effective.
There are simple easy ways to ensure emotional connection to a message is achieved by your as the presenter and for your audience as well.
1. Connect emotionally to your message through Passion – Show them you care by speaking with energy and enthusiasm, show you care about the shared vision.
2. Connect your audience to the message emotionally though Engagement – We learn things at a visceral (and more permanent level) when you are engaged with material. Make it a conversation, enroll them into the shared vision.
Increase your ability to help your audience emotionally experience your message by learning more skills at the “Be a Heroic Voice” 1-Day Virtual Event: https://events.heroicvoice.com/BeAHeroicVoice#/?affl=Sean

When delivering a presentation we know your message is important to you. The better you are able to deliver your message the better you feel about your presentation.
The other thing you need to keep in mind is that you have to create connection with your message on two levels. You as the presenter have to connect with the message. You also have to make sure the audience connects with the message.
To create these levels of connection at the intellectual level, you can use two easy strategies:
1. Connect yourself to your message through expertise: Be a curator of information, only including the essential elements your audience needs to succeed.
2. Connect your audience to your message through Comprehension – use a teacher mindset and explain the main points using clarity and precision.
Want more suggestions on connecting intellectually to you message? Attend the “Be a Heroic Voice” 1-Day Virtual Event: https://events.heroicvoice.com/BeAHeroicVoice#/?affl=Sean

By Sean:
Most people, when learning to develop their presentation skills, are able to develop on part of connection to their message. Unfortunately, to often they forget there are human beings in the room with them and they fail to connect with the audience.
It is imperative that you connect with the audience in every conversation or you will not achieve the outcome you desire.
The key to creating connection with your audience is two fold:
Connect at the intellectual level through relatability – identify common experiences to show your audience your understanding of their situation
Connect at the emotional level through Empathy – identify the emotions that your audience is experiencing to show depth of your emotional intelligence.
Want to learn more about how to connect with your audience, join the “Be a Heroic Voice” 1-day Virtual Event: https://events.heroicvoice.com/BeAHeroicVoice#/?affl=Sean
