Pork Chop Restaurant

6341 N Broadway Chicago, IL – porkchopchicago.com

8/21/23 – Porkchop is restaurant and bar that dishes out an urban interpretation of a Southern backwoods experience. It is an unapologetically unpretentious neighborhood party spot serving gourmet Southern comfort food and BBQ, and featuring an innovative bar program with some of the world’s top whiskeys.

Pit to plate smoked meats, seafood and veggie options offered with a full cocktail bar, specializing in over 70+ whiskies.

Q-tips say: It was our first visit to Pork Chop. The food was just ok – drinks were awful. Waitress/bartender said she does not know how to make a Perfect Manhattan – so we both had their Old Fashion – was strong but very little mix. Rest. did not look really clean, only one man was eating at the bar – that was it & music was loud & they have gambling machines. Not sure we will go back again.

I had: Build your own Burger w/ cheese an extra dollar. I asked for Swiss but she brought out the burger with Cheddar cheese. So far the evening was not going as well as we would anticipated, so Idecided to eat it instead of sending it back. There was lettuce, tomato, & asked for pickles – an extra charge & hand cut fries . All was just ok -nothing special.

The other half had: Blackened (was over blackend) Catfish Filet w/ Cole Slaw & Mac & Cheese. Was ok but not as good as Pearl’s was – which is now closed.

Red White & Royal Blue

Alex Claremont-Diaz (Taylor Zakhar Perez), the son of the President of the United States (Uma Thurman), and Britain’s Prince Henry (Nicholas Galitzine) have a lot in common: Stunning good looks, undeniable charisma, international popularity… and a total disdain for each other. Separated by an ocean, their long-running feud hasn’t really been an issue, until a disastrous–and very public–altercation at a royal event becomes tabloid fodder, driving a potential wedge in U.S./British relations at the worst possible time. Going into damage-control mode, their families and handlers force the two rivals into a staged “truce.” But as Alex and Henry’s icy relationship unexpectedly begins to thaw into a tentative friendship, the friction that existed between them sparks something deeper than they ever expected.

Rated R – (Language, Some Sexual Content & Partial Nudity).

Q-tips say: We really enjoyed this movie. A funny, smart, and sassy romantic comedy.

It turns out that watching two impossibly beautiful boys making cow eyes at each other might be just might be what we need right now.

Little Boy

When auto mechanic James Busbee (Michael Rapaport) is sent to fight the Japanese during World War II, he leaves behind his wife (Emily Watson) and two sons, London (David Henrie) and Pepper (Jakob Salvati). Pepper feels his father’s absence most keenly, and can’t wait for him to return home. An encounter with a magician (Ben Chaplin) and advice from a priest (Tom Wilkinson) convince Pepper that the power to bring his dad back safely may be within himself and his actions.

Q-tips say: Yes, we did enjoy it. There’s an earnestness that simply can’t be denied.
While the story has some logical (not to mention theological) inconsistencies, it is well-paced, well-produced, and very well acted.

Q-tips say: Yes, we did enjoy this movie & the fact that was filmed entirely on location in Spain. Beautiful scenes & scenery. They discover that the most important question isn’t who gave you life, but what you decide to do with it.

About My Father

Sebastian Maniscalco joins forces with legendary Italian-American and two-time Oscar winner, Robert De Niro, in the new comedy ABOUT MY FATHER. The film centers around Sebastian (Maniscalco) who is encouraged by his fiancée (Leslie Bibb) to bring his immigrant, hairdresser father, Salvo (De Niro), to a weekend get-together with her super-rich and exceedingly eccentric family (Kim Cattrall, Anders Holm, Brett Dier, David Rasche). The weekend develops into what can only be described as a culture clash, leaving Sebastian and Salvo to discover that the great thing about family is everything about family.

Q-tips say: Yes, we did enjoy & there are also some laughable moments to enjoy. The critics did not like it but the audience did. It’s an oddball movie that had me laughing out loud, perhaps not for reasons the filmmakers intended, but I enjoyed it anyway.

Rosie & Frank

Grief-stricken Róise lost her husband, Frank, two years ago. Her son, Alan, worries about her but the arrival of a mysterious dog seems to bring happiness to her life once more. Róise soon comes to believe that the dog is, in fact, Frank reincarnated. He has come back to be with her again… and to coach the local sports team.

Q-tips say: Yes, see this movie A wise, funny and heartwarming emotional journey.

Film toys with whimsy, but it is always at home to emotional honesty. There are worthwhile arguments being made about the difficulty of remaining connected to the bereaved when the wider family has moved on.

Mrs. Q says: The movie undeniably warms your heart and puts a smile on your face, and sometimes that’s exactly what we need at the movies. Not the crap we see on the TV news & in some movies.

Front of the Class

Hallmark-Prime – – Brad Cohen (Jimmy Wolk) overcomes the challenges of Tourette’s syndrome to become a gifted teacher. Front of the Class tells the inspiring story of Brad Cohen, based on the real life person. Brad (played by TV actor James Wolk) grows up in a broken family after his mom and dad divorce.

Q-tips say: YES, see it! IT IS GOOD. “Front of the Class” follows Brad as he strives to become, if not the first, certainly one of the first and the few schoolteachers with Tourette’s syndrome; throughout this narrative Brad recounts his childhood growing up with the disorder.

Mrs. Q says: A good Family Movie. Best movie I have ever seen about of Tourette’s Syndrome & the acting was superb from everyone even to the little kids.

The Ravine

When an unspeakable crime rocks a peaceful community, family and friends are left to wonder if they overlooked the murderer among them or if there might be more to the story. Inspired by true events, this haunting thriller stars Eric Dane, Teri Polo, Peter Facinelli, and Leslie Uggams.

Q-tips say: DO NOT waste your money or time on this movie. DO NOT WATCH IT!

Food Club

Marie recently found herself abandoned on Christmas Eve by her husband and has been falling apart ever since. Berling has been the eternal “bacherlorette” who outwardly denies her age and lives the sweet life, all seems perfect until we find out about her complicated relationship with her daughter. Vanja is still living in the past and has never been able to move on from her late husband. The three life long girlfriends decides to travel to Italy together to attend a cooking course in Puglia and here they each find the opportunity to redefine themselves and acknowledge that the most important thing in life is their friendship and that it’s never too late to live a more fulfilling life.

Q-tips say: Was good,
“Food Club” is full of gorgeous shots of foreign locales and scenes of people gathering to eat mouth-watering Italian food together. The cast has a wonderful rapport, and it feels good to see a film featuring women over 70, thank goodness Jane Fonda is not in this movie, who are portrayed as living their best lives. Actually, It’s inspiring,

Girl most likely

After losing her job and her boyfriend, a woman (Kristen Wiig) moves in with her estranged mother (Annette Bening) and finds an assortment of strange characters inhabiting the home.

Q-tips say: Was just ok. It’s a balance that mostly works, though a final twist at the end introduces an odd tension that, while wacky, makes the film’s climax feel somewhat uneven. The humor is bleak and dejecting, yet funny in a darkly quirky way.
