Emergency

6/22 – Kunle (Donald Elise Watkins) and his best friend, Sean (RJ Cyler), are both seniors in college about to embark on an epic night of Spring Break parties. Sean has the whole night planned out, including every party they will hit on their “legendary tour.” Kunle is down, yet mostly concerned with finishing up his mold experiment in his lab, as his acceptance to Princeton is hinging on the results. They return to their apartment to pre-game, yet find that their roommate, Carlos (Sebastian Chacon), left the door open. As they enter with trepidation, Sean and Kunle discover a drunk, semi-conscious White female they don’t know on the floor and an oblivious Carlos, who didn’t hear her come in over the videogame blaring in his ears. Kunle wants to call the cops but Sean vehemently opposes the idea concerned how it will look when the cops show up (two Black men, one Latino man and a passed out White woman). Together, Carlos, Sean and Kunle load the girl — who they nickname Goldilocks, but whose real name is Emma (Maddie Nichols) — into Sean’s van, with the intention of taking her somewhere safe rather than calling the police. Meanwhile, Emma’s sister, Maddy (Sabrina Carpenter), has realized that Emma left the party they were at, and begins to search for her in a drunk panic using Emma’s phone’s location. What ensues is a chaotic, hilarious, and tension-filled chase all over town as our trio grapples with their differences while attempting to bring Emma to safety.

Q-tips say: Yes, we did enjoy this movie.

The Innocents

5/22-

Terror strikes when a group of Nordic children reveals mysterious powers that take a dark and violent turn.

The other half said: Liked it. He said it was well done.

Mrs. Q Says: Don’t see it. Don’t waste your money/time on this movie. Young children hurting -injuring one another & a movie where nasty kids do nasty things, is not my idea of a good movie. Skip it.

Childhood is hard, and childhood grudges run harder. The Innocents pulls no punches in turning that fact into horror.

Prehistoric Planet

5/22 – It is a series –  Prehistoric Planet wondrously brings viewers back to the age of dinosaurs.

“Prehistoric Planet” presents little-known and surprising facts of dinosaur life set against the backdrop of the environments of Cretaceous times, including coasts, deserts, freshwater, ice worlds and forests. Travel back 66 million years to when majestic dinosaurs and extraordinary creatures roamed the lands, seas and skies.

Q-tips say: Yes, see it.  Finally a brilliant documentary that depicts dinosaurs and prehistoric animals according to up to date science and discoveries. Finally an outstanding TV show with a superb CGI, wonderful soundtrack, beautiful narration (David Attenborough is always god tier) and the support of a strong team of paleontologists and paleoartists. Finally, prehistoric animals aren’t monsters, but Animals. Thank you, Prehistoric Planet – let this be the beginning of a new era of paleomedia.

The Staircase

5/22 – The Staircase doesn’t hold many surprises for those already intimate with the original documentary, but this dramatization brings a fresh perspective and texture to the mystery.

Q-tips say: Yes, it is series but all of the series are ready to be viewed. Author and aspiring local politician Michael Peterson is charged with murder after the suspicious death of his wife Kathleen. The story of the fortunate Peterson family who lived in a luxurious mansion in North Carolina, until Kathleen Peterson’s body was discovered at the foot of a staircase, and her husband Michael was tried for murder.

Is guilty or Not? Well, Mrs. Q knew which it was from the beginning of the movie.

The Lost City

5/13/22 – Reclusive author Loretta Sage writes about exotic places in her popular adventure novels that feature a handsome cover model named Alan. While on tour promoting her new book with Alan, Loretta gets kidnapped by an eccentric billionaire who hopes she can lead him to an ancient city’s lost treasure from her latest story. Determined to prove he can be a hero in real life and not just on the pages of her books, Alan sets off to rescue her.

Q-tips say: Yes, see it. It is goofy, silly in parts but a mindless movie to enjoy. We need more comedy in this world, and what better way to achieve that than through viewing The Lost City. For the most part, it finds that sweet spot between goofy and sincere, especially during the scenes where Tatum’s Alan tries to match up to the mercenary hired to rescue Loretta, played by none other than Brad Pitt.

Lazy Lobster –  5350 Gulf Of Mexico Dr.Long Boat Key, FL 941-383-0440,  lazylobsteroflongboat.com

Q-tips say: Much nicer than the other location in Bradenton. Nicer ambiance, cleaner, they have a full bar, not just wine/beer. And the menu is different.  Who doesn’t like nicer, cleaner, full bar and better menu?  We enjoyed and will go again to the LBK location.

Q-tips say: Great drinks, food, ambiance.  They offer indoor/outdoor seating.  Mrs. Q says: We had outstanding service.

I had  small Caesar salad & Chicken Marsala – sautéed with mushrooms & marsala wine, with mashed potatoes & string beans.

Dope sick –

4/22 – Dopesick at times sinks under the weight of its subject matter, but strong performances from Michael Keaton and Kaitlyn Dever and an empathetic approach to the very real people impacted by the opioid crisis make for harrowing drama.

Q tips say: Was good but a little slow at times. This was about OxyContin.

Q-tips say: See it. Kind of Interesting – Spoiler alert: You might figure everything before you see the ending.

Cyrano

4/19/22 – A man ahead of his time, Cyrano de Bergerac (played by Peter Dinklage) dazzles whether with ferocious wordplay at a verbal joust or with brilliant swordplay in a duel. But, convinced that his appearance renders him unworthy of the love of a devoted friend, the luminous Roxanne (Haley Bennett), Cyrano has yet to declare his feelings for her — and Roxanne has fallen in love, at first sight, with Christian (Kelvin Harrison, Jr.).

Q-tips say: Yes, see it. Mrs. Q says: it is great Peter Dinklage in the lead role.

A lush, moving and emotionally rich story of longing, love and acceptance featuring a standout performance from Peter Dinklage.

The healing powers of Dude

4/2022 – When an 11-year-old boy with social anxiety disorder must start middle school, he finds strength in a lovable comfort mutt named Dude.

Q-tips say: YES, YES, see it.

A good movie for kids & family to watch together. It’s clean, fun, and relatable.

Mrs.Q says: Yes, it is a series but worth watching. A good movie – made me realise how hard it must be for someone like the main character to go through situations, the dog is cute and the story I am not sure how realistic – not sure that  Emotional Support Dogs get public access in schools, restaurants or any other public place without proper training. Not sure if that the dog, Dude, had proper training as an Emotional Support dog but still worth watching.
