Wolfwalkers –

In a time of superstition and magic, a young apprentice hunter, Robyn Goodfellowe, journeys to Ireland with her father to wipe out the last wolf pack. While exploring the forbidden lands outside the city walls, Robyn befriends a free-spirited girl, Mebh, a member of a mysterious tribe rumored to have the ability to transform into wolves by night. As they search for Mebh’s missing mother, Robyn uncovers a secret that draws her further into the enchanted world of the “Wolfwalkers” and risks turning into the very thing her father is tasked to destroy.

Q-tips say: A decent animated movie. Guess is up for some awards. We did enjoy it BUT NOT for CHILDREN. A visual splendor & a girl power is a running theme also.

Penguin Bloom

In 2013, Samantha Bloom (two-time Academy Award nominee Naomi Watts), her husband Cameron (The Walking Dead’s Andrew Lincoln) and their three sons left their home in Australia for a holiday in Thailand. While enjoying a view, Sam fell off of a rooftop due to what was later determined to be a rotted railing… breaking her vertebrae in two places. Paralyzed from the chest down, Sam — a lifelong outdoorswoman, surfer, and traveler — was unrecognizable to herself, and spent long months in a depression that made her question who she could be in the world and in her own family. A year later, her children brought home a wounded baby magpie they found. Warily eyeing the black-and-white bird the kids affectionately named “Penguin,” Sam bonded with the household’s new member, beginning a process of emotional healing that surprised her husband and sons, her mother (Academy Award nominee Jacki Weaver), and herself. PENGUIN BLOOM tells the amazing true story of renewal that occurred when a woman whose life seemed shattered found hope and purpose in her family’s love — and in a bird on its own journey of recovery.

Q-tips say: See it!
The story of struggle and survival, both human and avian, is predictable. Just as Penguin learns to take to the skies through trial and error, the film takes some wrong steps, but ultimately makes your spirit soar.

Mrs. Q says: The movie doesn’t honey-coat the difficulties faced by Sam or her family,

One night in Miami

1/2021 – On one incredible night in 1964, four icons of sports, music, and activism gathered to celebrate one of the biggest upsets in boxing history. When underdog Cassius Clay, soon to be called Muhammad Ali, (Eli Goree), defeats heavy weight champion Sonny Liston at the Miami Convention Hall, Clay memorialized the event with three of his friends: Malcolm X (Kingsley Ben-Adir), Sam Cooke (Leslie Odom Jr.) and Jim Brown (Aldis Hodge).

Q -tips say: see it. Mrs. Q was not sure if she would like this movie, but she did. Was loosely based on a true story. We don’t know the details of that famous meeting of four legends more than half-century ago, but if it was anything like what plays out in One Night in Miami, oh what a night.

Winter Solstice Celebration. 12/2019

Winter Solstice Celebration. In 2019 the winter solstice occured on Sunday 22 December.   The winter solstice occurs in December, and in the northern hemisphere the date marks the 24-hour period with the fewest daylight hours of the year. That is why it is known as the shortest day of the year, or the longest night of the year.  It’s the astronomical moment when the Sun reaches the Tropic of Capricorn, we have our shortest day and longest night of the year in the Northern Hemisphere in terms of daylight. Regardless of what the weather is doing outside your window, the solstice marks the official start of winter.

What is Does “Solstice” Mean?  The term “solstice” comes from the Latin words sol (sun) and sistere (to stand still) because, during the solstice, the angle between the Sun’s rays and the plane of the Earth’s equator (called declination) appears to stand still.  So what does that mean, exactly? Upon the winter solstice, the Sun appears at its lowest in the sky, and its noontime elevation seems to stay the same for several days before and after this day. The Sun’s gradual decrease in the sky reverses upon the winter solstice, marking what many cultures believe to be a “rebirth” of the Sun as the hours of daylight become longer.

Kinky Boots

on “The shows must go on” – You Tube

Kinky Boots- Kinky Boots is a musical with music and lyrics by Cyndi Lauper and book by Harvey Fierstein. Based on the 2005 British film Kinky Boots, written by Geoff Deane and Tim Firth and mostly inspired by true events, the musical tells the story of Charlie.

Charlie is a factory owner struggling to save his family business. Lola is a fabulous entertainer with a wildly exciting idea. With a little compassion and a lot of understanding, this unexpected pair learns to embrace their differences and create a line of sturdy stilettos unlike any the world has ever seen.

Yesterday’s performance by all was outstanding. Wow! What talent, singing, acting, staging. The Q’s did enjoy watching Kinky Boots at home.

Christmas Angel

12/20 – Ashley (Kari Hawker) feels alone as she searches fruitlessly for a job around Christmas. Her neighbor Nick offers her a job as his assistant one one condition, she cannot reveal that he is some sort of secret Santa that helps people in need. A feel good movie to enjoy with a glass of wine.

The Fitzgerald Family Christmas

12/14/20 – Rifts emerge among family members when their long-estranged patriarch decides to come home for the holidays.

A Christmas Wish

A Christmas Wish (TV Movie 2011) - Plot Summary Poster

12/12/20 – Martha Evans has been abandoned by her husband, who took all their cash and left her homeless and virtually destitute with her two daughters and stepson. Martha leaves town in hopes of finding a job and a place to stay and finally finds a job at a sleepy rural diner, once famous for its home-made root beer. But with her car broken down and the bills piling up, it looks like a bleak Christmas for Martha and her family. However, there are warm hearts working behind the scenes that ultimately make this the happiest holiday of Martha’s life.

Q-tips say: See it – we enjoyed it! A few minutes of sadness but overall a good movie.

Mrs Q says: Wish more movies were like this. It is so relatable and real. They don’t have everyone dressed up (even the “poor” people) in perfect clothes, with perfect hair and perfect houses! You could truly feel Martha’s (Kristy Swanson) pain it felt real and those kids WOW! Not everyone is the world is nice but this movie makes you wish they were.

After A Christmas Wish – how about enjoying Frosty the Snowman again.
