ROTTEN – on netflix 10/19

Rotten –  a series about the food we eat/drink.  This one was about avocados. You would not believe what they go through to market avocados.  Other stories are: about wine and another about the water you drink.

Q-tips say: Watch it.  Was interesting and informative.

Hop On/Off Bus

NOLA Hop On/Off Bus           Q-tips say:  Yes, especially if you cannot walk alot.  The four of us did use it but usually we walked & walked & walked & walked to many places. NOLA is pretty easy to get around by walking  but they do have a good transportation system. So if needed, use it.

The Sightseeing Pass comes with the choice of a 1-Day Hop-On, Hop-Off City Bus Tour by City Sightseeing New Orleans to help you get around while you get to know the city.

Visitors can use one of their choices to enjoy a 24 hour ticket valid for unlimited access to Hop-On Hop-Off City Sightseeing double decker routes.

Either stay on the bus all the way round the loop and enjoy the colorful and informative guides or use the bus as a great way to get to your next attraction. You’re sure to have a fun time on a City Sightseeing tour and you might just hear something surprising about the city.

St. Louis Cemetery # 1 – oldest cemetery

St. Louis Cemetery # 1 – oldest cemetery – 425 Basin St., New Orleans, LA 70112

Due to rampant vandalism of historical tombs, the local diocese has mandated this rule it is closed to the public. You can only go in with a tour guide eyeballing your every move.  Highly recommend bringing an umbrella, sunscreen, & water as there is virtually no shade. Some movies have been made here: parts of  “Easy Rider.” The diocese has stopped movie making due to the “partying” that went on with the movie making.

Some of our favorite sites were Nicolas Cage‘s future site as well as the possible grave site of Voodoo Queen Marie Laveau.  She is buried in the Paris family tomb Marie Laveau, who as tour guides will tell you if you didn’t know, was a voodoo queen (good magic), not a hoodoo (evil) practitioner. She was a Creole and free person of color who used her “powers” to give people advice or help them.

Cooking Class in NOLA

Our Son & Daughter in Law take cooking & drink making classes to enjoy the local food/drinks wherever they travel either in the US or in Europe when on vacation.

So in NOLA,  the company used was “Crescent City Cooks” and was the best after some research.            Crescent City Cooks | United States

I was told that if you register early enough you get to choose the menu:)  They enjoyed this class and brought back some tasty morsels.

Happy Cooking!

Taking our New Orleans skills with us, for dinner tonight we made Shrimp Remoulade from our cooking class and made the chicken version of turtle soup for tomorrow night.  Why? where can you get turtle meat?  So chicken it is!

National World War II Museum

National World War II Museum –  945 Magazine St.,New Orleans, LA  Warehouse District

Mrs. Q says: Thank you to the men and women that fought for, and continue to keep us safe.

Q-tips say: Great museum. One of the best. You can easily spend more than one day in this museum. They do have handouts for children to find things like “special airplanes.”

The Museum does an excellent job telling the story of WWII in an accurate way.  You are given a dog tag that corresponds to a service member; once you board the “train”, you scan the dog tag to meet your service member and hear their story.  The train does not move but gives you the impression that you are in Europe on your way to the Front.   Each exhibit is done up complete with a change in climate (e.g. Europe has snow and pine trees whereas the Pacific has jungles).  All along the way, footage is playing with sound effects; memorabilia abounds – photos of those who gave their lives as well as their story and sometimes letters and personal effects.

Napoleon House

Napoleon House – 500 Chartres St., New Orleans, LA – Remaining true to itself, the deeply painted walls, uneven floors, luminous photography, and a sea of quotes from famous to regular guests covering the walls between the weathered paintings, speak to the many decades of dedicated service and one of the world’s greatest bars.

Mrs. Q says: Loved this place. We went twice. Once for an afternoon snack. GREAT CRISPY BREAD!

The best server: Jordan A. He showed Mrs. Q some antiques in the cabinet. Awesome.
