Oscar Scherer State Park

This is a smaller park than Myakka State Park. Oscar Scherer offers: hiking trails, restrooms, campground(s), canoe launch, play ground, ranger station, a nature center. Yes, your 4 legged friends are welcome providing you keep them on a lease at all times.

Cost: $5.00 for a car of 4 people.

Enjoyed a leisure walk around the Park. Then off to Rosebud for dinner.

Oscar Scherer plays an invaluable role in the preservation of Florida scrub-jay habitat. Bald eagles nest here in the winter, and in the summer, Lake Osprey attracts anglers and swimmers.

South Creek attracts anglers, canoers and kayakers.

The Golden Voice

A homeless veteran and a young street singer, both on a self-destructive path, who battle dark times through friendship and music.

Q tips say: YES! Watch The Golden Voice.

Excellent movie! A must see! I loved it! Rising star Dharon Jones and the veteran Nick Nolte have an amazing chemistry and deliver an excellent performance! What a feel good movie!

Mrs. Q says: A heartfelt film about bonds/friendships, and the importance of a kind heart. I wish the film had been a bit longer, I enjoyed it that much. Two different views of being young and an old man… this movie tell you about how to cope with your struggle, & how to face your own problem, even if you are still young.

Mrs. Q says: I enjoyed the scene when the Prez ditched the high heels for sneakers, that’s it. Perhaps, if you’re hard up you could STREAM IT and turn a few of those eyerolls into belly laughs.

Mrs. Q says: Nice place to walk, take your kids/grandkids/dog in the dog park, skate park, etc. A fun place to feed squirrels & birds – buy only unsalted peanuts as not to upset the little tummy.

THINGS TO DO AT MYAKKA:
A VISITOR CENTER: w/ displays, movies and information. AIR BOAT RIDE/ TRAM TOUR, CONCESSION:, CANOE/ KAYAK/ BIKE – rent or bring your own. CANOPY WALK, GATOR WATCHING, BIRDING, BIRDWALK, NATURE TRAILS, HIKING, NATIVE TREE WALK, FISHING (Fresh water license required), PICNIC (picnic areas w/tables, grills – bring your own or buy charcoal at the concession stores), PLAYGROUNDS, JUNIOR RANGER PROGRAM, RANGER PROGRAMS AND SPECIAL EVENTS, OVERNIGHT CAMPING or LOG CABINS – reservations needed).

Due the Holiday Season & snow-birds returning – very busy – many more people with younger families at this time visiting.

Mrs. Q says: A GREAT PLACE to spend the day for children of all ages. What fun to see Deer, Alligators, Birds, and listen/ or look for Feral Hogs, and maybe a Bobcat. Bobcats are nocturnal but often rest during the day in trees. Did see a few animals this time and the water level was fine.

When family visits they have fun walking the Canopy Walk.

Animals we saw the last visit: Alligators, raccoons in a cage, beautiful birds, and several two legged animals 🙂

Had our usual libations- Old Fashion & Perfect Manhattan.

Mrs. Q had: Seared Ahi Tuna with coleslaw & delicious rice.

The Mr. had: Blackened Grouper with coleslaw & Parsley Potatoes.

Q-tips say: Food & service was good. After early morning routine Dr. appt., we go out for breakfast.

The Q’s shared: 2 eggs, a muffin, potatoes & bacon. Each had a tomato juice & coffee.

They offer a big menu to enjoy & serve breakfast all day. Lunch is served after 10:30.

Best thing of the day – Had a wonderful time with Rae Ann & Chuck, very long time friends.

After Happy Yappy Hour & munchies at their house, we went out to dinner.

Chuck had Beer & Fish & Chips – Dock fries & house made Cole slaw.

Rae Ann had Scotch & a beer & Grouper Nuggets – with Dock fries, creamy coleslaw, tartar sauce and Cajun remoulade.

Q-tips had: Grouper Sandwich – One had Blackened & one had just grilled fresh grouper with lettuce, tomato, and red onion, served with our house-made tartar sauce on a brioche bun.

Q-tips say: Wonderful evening – good service, drinks, food.

Mrs. Q had: Dark Perfect Manhattan & Cup of Pasta Fagioli – Broth, Sausage, White Beans & Risotto e Tartufo Capesante con Funghi – Creamy Arborio Risotto, Black Truffles, Pan Seared Scallops – Wild Mushrooms, Reggiano.

The other half had: Dark Perfect Manhattan & Cup of Pasta Fagioli –Parmesan Prosciutto Broth, Sausage, White Beans & Roasted Lamb Chops – Creamy Dijon Home Fries, Malt Vinegar, Mint Rosemary Ju.
